When ski jumpers are airborne (Fig. CQ14.15), they bend their bodies forward and keep their hands at their sides. Why?
Short Answer
The skier bends forward in order to deflect the air stream downwards. The air stream, in turn, deflects her upward. So the pressure on his back will be less than the pressure on his front, lifting his higher and giving a longer trajectory.
