Blocks a, b, and c in FIGURE Q14.7 have the same density. Rank in order, from largest to smallest, the sizes of the buoyant forces Fa , Fb , and Fc on a, b, and c. Explain

Short Answer

Expert verified

The buoyant force is in order as: Fa =Fc >Fb

Step by step solution

01

Given information

The figure given with 3 objects with same density is submerged in liquid.

02

Explanation

Buoyant force acting on a mass floating in a liquid depends on density or object, submerged volume of object and gravity.

F= Vs ρg …………………..(1)

Where

F = buoyant force

Vs = submerged volume

ρ = density of liquid

g = gravity

We know that the density of the blocks are same so volume of block will be

V = Mass / Density

We have Ma =Mc =50g and Mb =40 g

So

Va =Vc >Vb ......................(2)

From the equation (1) we understand that Buoyant force depends on the Volume submerged if density of liquid is same.

Therefore from equation(1) and (2) we can conclude that

Fa =Fc >Fb.
