Galaxies are enormous systems that contain millions to billions of stars, along with gas, dust, and dark matter, all intertwined by gravity. They come in various shapes and sizes:
- Elliptical galaxies: Generally more spherical and contain older stars.
- Spiral galaxies: As we described, these have beautifully defined spiral arms.
- Irregular galaxies: Lacking a clear shape, these often appear disorganized.
Each galaxy can have its own unique properties and characteristics. Our solar system resides within one of these fascinating structures, the Milky Way Galaxy.
