For many years, the American Diabetic Association recommended a diet high in complex carbohydrates and fiber and low in fat for diabetics. It was later found that some individuals did not do as well on such a diet as on one high in monounsaturated fatty acids. since \(1994,\) the ADA has abandoned the concept of a single diabetic diet and now recommends a focus on achicving glucose, lipid, and blood pressure goals with weight reduction if necessary.
