Reduction of sigma bonds with LiAlH4

LiAlH4 is used for the reduction of alkyl halide or epoxide. It donates H- ions which replaces the X- ions in alkyl halide.

The reaction follows SN2 mechanism; hence it completes in a single step only. In epoxides, the H- ion attack on less substituted carbon.
