Chain-growth polymerization phenomenon takes place by the addition of smaller polymer chains to form a giant polymer molecule.
In this phenomenon, the active site of the chemical reaction is functional groups. During the process, double bond removal might occur which leads to chain building.

1,1-dicholorethene has double bonds, and when chain-growth polymerization of this compound is carried out, the double bonds become a single bond, and many units of the monomers gets combined.
