The systematic names for water, ammonia, and methane, for example, are dihydrogen monoxide, \(\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}\); trihydrogen nitride, \(\mathrm{NH}_{3}\); and tetrahydrogen carbide, \(\mathrm{CH}_{4}\).
