Chapter 23: Q47 P (page 1059)
What is the coordination number of a metal ion in a complex ion? How does it differ from oxidation number?
Short Answer
The coordination number is that the number of ligands directly attached to central metal ion in an exceedingly chemical compound. The most difference between coordination number and oxidation number is that the coordination number is number of ligands attached to central metal ion in chemical compound and oxidation number represents charge of the central atom once we remove all electrons and ligands around it.
