Complete the following reactions

Short Answer

Expert verified

(a)The product of given reaction is butane

(b) The product of given reaction is 2,3,4,56-tetra chloro-4-methyl-hexane

(c) The product of given reaction is chloro benzene

(d) The product of given reaction is carbon dioxide and water

Step by step solution

01

To complete Butane

The following reaction is demonstratedas follows:

-The double bond between second carbon and third carbon atom would be broken because of given reaction,

-So that there will be free carbon bond on which hydrogen atoms are attached,

Hence The product of the given reaction is "-butane"

02

 To complete -tetrachloro--methyl-hexane

The following reaction proceeds as folllows:

When chlorine atoms comes close to the carbon double bonds, chlorine atom would take one electron from the double bonds ,

-So that there will be free carbon bonds on which chlorine atoms would attack,

Hence The product of the given reaction is "2,3,4,5,6-tetra chloro-4-methyl-hexane"

03

To complete  chlorobenzene

The following reaction is demonstrated as follows :

-Due to the presence of the catalyst FeCl one hydrogen bond would break from the chain and create free space for one chlorine atom to form bond with the carbon atom.

-One free chlorine atom would attract and bond with the hydrogen atom that was left out. (substitution reaction)

Hence The product of the given reaction is "chlorobenzene"

04

To complete Carbon dioxide and water

The following reaction is demonstrated as follows:

Because of the spark the bonds in the given compound would break and free carbons would bond with oxygen- In order to have balanced chemical reaction six molecules have to react with a given compound.

Hence The product of the given reaction is carbon dioxide and water.
