Chapter 16: Q. 16.19 (page 566)
What is the difference in hydrogen bonding between an helix and a -pleated sheet?
Short Answer
In the a-helix structure the hydrogen bond is formed between the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group and the hydrogen of the amine group in the next turn of the helical chain.
In -plated sheet the hydrogen bond is formed between the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group and the hydrogen of the amine groupin the parallel section of polypeptide chain.
