In what ways do histone gene transcripts differ from transcripts of other vertebrate protein-coding genes?

Short Answer

Expert verified

Histone are the basic proteins associated with packaging of DNA in the nucleus of eukaryotes. And undergoes post transcriptional modifications in its N terminal and globular regions.

Step by step solution

01

Packaging of DNA

DNA is the genetic material. It has a very long length .It is packed in the eukaryotic cell with the help of basic proteins called histones which are found in the nucleus of only the eukaryotic cells . Histones compactly packs the DNA into nucleosomes which are further folded and packed into solenoid, chromosomes, and chromatin.

02

Explanation

DNA is packed in a compact manner by winding it around the histones molecules. Nucleosome is formed by histone octamer in which there are two subunits of H2A-H2B and tetramers of H3 and H4.These are basic in nature . DNA is slightly negatively charged and basic in nature. Histones proteins also undergoes post transcriptional modifications on their N – terminal and globular regions.
