Plants use the sun's energy to prepare their own food. Roots, branches, leaves, and seeds store this prepared meal. Carnivores consume the same food that plants create through photosynthesis and that herbivores consume when they feast on them. Carnivores are thus indirectly reliant on photosynthesis.Plants are the foundation of the carnivorous food chain. They are autotrophic and the principal generators of energy. When plants create energy through photosynthesis, part of it is utilised as food and some is saved in their leaves, stems, and roots, which herbivores devour for energy. For energy and nourishment, herbivores are hunted down by predators such as lions.
